Craft and Vision
I've taken the scenic route to design. It turned out to be useful.
My career has moved through fashion, interiors, textiles, bespoke furniture and business.
It means I tend to see relationships between things that don't always appear on the same Pinterest board.
Before establishing Lisa Galvin Design, I spent eight years running an award-winning joinery business, working alongside skilled craftspeople designing and producing custom interiors and furniture.
It taught me to care about what happens behind the beautiful photograph.
Materials.
Construction.
Documentation.
And whether the thing somebody has drawn can actually be built without a tradesperson quietly cursing their name.
Earlier in my career, I worked as a C-suite assistant within companies including BCG.
Different world. Surprisingly useful design training.
I saw firsthand how high-performing people operate when their days are full of decisions, meetings and responsibilities.
Which is why I believe:
When your working life demands a lot from you, your home and wardrobe shouldn't.
If you make decisions all day, the last thing I'm going to do is arrive at your house with 83 fabric samples and chirp, “Which one do you like?”
My job is to edit.
To research.
To notice.
To narrow things down.

A little proof is better than a lot of adjectives
My work moves between interiors, joinery, fashion, textiles, objects and art.
Different disciplines, same obsession with colour, texture, materiality and why some things belong together while others need to be separated immediately.
You'll find professional work alongside my broader creative practice because one continually feeds the other.
Apparently I don't believe creativity should stay politely inside its designated department.
Philosophy
Design with character, for people and places with character
Beige is a colour. It is not a personality.
I'm not particularly interested in creating a home or wardrobe that could belong to anybody.
I want it to feel unmistakably like you.
That means understanding how you live, what you already own, what matters to you and which rules we can safely ignore.
Purposeful
Beauty earns its keep.
A chair can be magnificent, but if nobody can sit in it without requiring assistance to get back up, we need to talk.
Your spaces and wardrobe need to work in actual life, not just during the 1/125th of a second the photograph is taken.
Personal
I don't arrive with a pre-approved Lisa Galvin Design Look™.
Your home doesn't need to resemble mine.
Your wardrobe doesn't need to resemble mine.
And neither needs to resemble the algorithm's current fascination with oatmeal.
We're looking for your visual language.
I'll help make it considerably more articulate.
Considered
More isn't automatically better.
Better is better.
I favour quality, longevity and making good use of what you already own.
Vintage pieces, sentimental objects, beautiful clothes and well-made furniture don't suddenly become irrelevant because the internet has declared something else the look this week.
Good things deserve another conversation before they're shown the door.
Experienced
I've worked around corporate boardrooms, fashion, textiles, interior design and joinery workshops.
An unusual combination, admittedly.
But it means I understand both the idea and the execution.
The mood board and the measurement.
The silk blouse and the dry-cleaning implications.
The beautiful joinery detail and the person who has to build the thing.
Design becomes much more interesting when reality is invited to the meeting.
