Art Deco / Interior Decorating

A beachside display home brought to life the Lisa Galvin way. Texture, bold colour and a few themes that dare you to look away.

For this project, I was asked to design and style three interconnecting rooms in a display home. The living, kitchen and alfresco areas.

To escape the all-too-familiar white-on-white vibe found in so many display homes, I chose a stunning Art Deco interior decorating theme. Inspired by the grand Art Deco cinematic experience, I turned to a daring colour palette and geometric shapes.

I selected a dramatic velvet curtain as an unexpected way to disguise the fact that the room didn't have a window. The curtain also paid homage to the Golden Age of cinema, which ran parallel with the Art Deco period. Let's face it, who can resist lush velvet?

In the kitchen, it was all about creating textural intrigue with reeded glass inlaid into the cupboard doors and luxurious pink-veined stone in the joinery.

For the outdoor area, the retro safari style unifies with the Art Deco theme. Fun fact: Art Deco drew ideas from exotic adventures including African safaris. In this space, I played with textures using a feature wall of lighting, plant screens, cane chairs and accessories.

The tribal feel and organic textures of this safari-themed area evoke something between wanderlust and wonder.

Inspired by a love of Art Deco, vintage references and texture that demands to be touched. This one came together in the most fabulous way.
