Natural Textiles for Oceanic Interior Design

To conjure up an industrial / nautical themed interior design home with suitable textile selection from the inside out – perfect for seaside living.

This brief called for a stand-out exterior and interior design scheme. The solution: a sailing ship-inspired theme with a modern industrial style as a nod to the riverside town’s heritage.

For a dash of cheeky, I've selected a traditional Breton mariner’s stripe (originally worn by French sailors), and a burst of red. I also applied rusted render to the feature walls outside, which will add character over time.

To reflect the nautical interior design theme outdoors, I’ve chosen natural and woven, yet comfortable custom soft furnishings. Think sisal rugs, cotton canvas and flax linen (traditional materials used in old sailing ships).

Statement

As the Queen of Textiles, this project was a passion project in every sense of the word. And it marries all my favourite things: finding cool ways to juxtapose the past with the present, being playful and daring to be different.
