Natural Textiles / Interior Design
An industrial nautical interior for seaside living. Textiles selected from the inside out.
This brief called for a stand-out exterior and interior design scheme. The solution: a sailing ship-inspired theme with a modern industrial style as a nod to the riverside town's heritage.
For a dash of cheek, I selected a traditional Breton mariner's stripe (originally worn by French sailors) and a burst of red. Rusted render applied to the exterior feature walls adds character that only improves with time.
To carry the nautical theme outdoors, I chose natural and woven soft furnishings that are comfortable without sacrificing the aesthetic. Sisal rugs, cotton canvas and flax linen. Traditional materials used in old sailing ships, reimagined for modern living.
As the Queen of Textiles, this was a passion project in every sense. It brings together all the things I love most. Finding cool ways to juxtapose the past with the present, being playful and daring to be different.
